Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

1. Introduction

Jurnal Multidisipliner Kapalamada is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity. The journal upholds the principles of honesty, transparency, objectivity, accountability, and fairness throughout the submission, peer-review, and publication processes.

This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher to prevent research misconduct and ensure the quality and credibility of scholarly publications in Islamic economics, finance, business, and management.

The journal's publication ethics policy is informed by the principles and best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All parties involved in the publication process are expected to comply with these principles and act responsibly when ethical concerns arise.

2. Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

2.1. Fair Play and Editorial Independence

Editors evaluate submitted manuscripts based on their academic merit, including originality, methodological rigor, validity, significance, clarity, and relevance to the journal's aims and scope. Editorial decisions must be made without discrimination based on authors' race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, political beliefs, institutional affiliation, or other personal characteristics.

Editorial decisions must remain independent of commercial, institutional, political, or other external interests. The Editor-in-Chief has overall responsibility for editorial decisions and the content published in the journal.

2.2. Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts. Manuscript information may only be shared with the corresponding author, assigned reviewers, relevant editorial advisers, and the publisher when necessary for the editorial process.

Unpublished manuscripts and confidential information must not be disclosed or used for personal or professional advantage.

2.3. Publication Decisions

Editors are responsible for deciding which manuscripts are suitable for publication. Decisions must be based on the manuscript's academic quality, originality, relevance to the journal's scope, reviewers' evaluations, and applicable legal and ethical requirements.

Manuscripts considered for publication must undergo the journal's established peer-review process. The Editor-in-Chief may consult reviewers or other editorial board members before reaching a final decision.

2.4. Conflicts of Interest

Editors must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest arising from financial, professional, personal, competitive, or collaborative relationships with authors or their affiliated institutions.

Editors who have a conflict of interest must withdraw from handling the relevant manuscript. An independent editor should be appointed to ensure an impartial editorial assessment.

Editors and editorial board members must not use unpublished information obtained through manuscript handling for their own research without the authors' explicit written permission.

2.5. Handling Ethical Concerns

Editors must respond promptly and appropriately to allegations of research misconduct involving submitted or published manuscripts. All allegations must be assessed fairly and investigated in accordance with the journal's procedures and applicable COPE guidance.

Where misconduct or significant errors are established, the journal may issue a correction, an expression of concern, a retraction, or another appropriate editorial notice.

3. Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

3.1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer reviewers assist editors in evaluating the quality, validity, originality, and significance of submitted manuscripts. Their assessments should help editors make informed publication decisions and provide authors with constructive recommendations for improving their work.

3.2. Expertise and Timeliness

Reviewers should accept invitations only when they have appropriate expertise in the subject matter and can complete the review within the requested timeframe.

Reviewers who consider themselves unqualified or unable to complete a review promptly must inform the editor and decline the invitation as soon as possible.

3.3. Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, distribute, or discuss manuscript content with unauthorized individuals.

Unpublished information, ideas, or data obtained during peer review must not be used for personal research or professional advantage without the authors' explicit written permission.

3.4. Objectivity and Constructive Feedback

Reviews must be objective, fair, and supported by clear academic reasoning. Comments should focus on the manuscript's content, methodology, evidence, and contribution to the field.

Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide constructive suggestions that help authors improve the quality and clarity of their manuscripts.

3.5. Acknowledgement of Sources and Research Integrity

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been adequately cited and notify the editor of any substantial similarity, overlap, suspected plagiarism, or other potential ethical concerns.

Any concerns must be communicated confidentially to the editor and supported by appropriate evidence whenever possible.

3.6. Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest involving the authors, their institutions, or the research being evaluated.

Reviewers who cannot provide an impartial assessment must decline the invitation or notify the editor immediately so that an alternative reviewer can be appointed.

4. Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

4.1. Reporting Standards

Authors must present their research accurately, clearly, and objectively. Manuscripts should contain sufficient methodological detail, supporting evidence, and relevant references to allow readers to assess the validity of the findings.

Authors must not fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or deliberately misrepresent data, research procedures, results, or conclusions. Any limitations that may affect the interpretation of the findings should be acknowledged.

4.2. Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must submit original work and appropriately acknowledge all ideas, data, text, and other materials derived from external sources.

Plagiarism includes presenting another person's work as one's own, copying or paraphrasing substantial material without proper attribution, and claiming research findings obtained by others. All forms of plagiarism and improper attribution are unacceptable.

Submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection software. Any suspected violation will be assessed by the editorial team in accordance with the journal's plagiarism policy.

4.3. Duplicate and Concurrent Submission

Authors must not submit manuscripts that have already been published or are simultaneously under consideration by another journal.

Substantial overlap with previously published work must be disclosed and properly referenced. Secondary publication may be considered only when justified, transparently disclosed, and permitted under applicable publication ethics standards, with the necessary approval and citation of the primary publication.

4.4. Authorship and Contributions

Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the conception or design of the study, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or development of the manuscript.

All listed authors must participate in drafting or critically revising the manuscript, approve the final version, and agree to its submission for publication. Each author must be able to take responsibility for their contribution and cooperate in addressing questions concerning the integrity of the work.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all eligible contributors are appropriately listed as authors and that no ineligible individuals are included. Contributors who do not meet the authorship criteria should be acknowledged with their permission.

AI tools and AI-assisted technologies cannot be listed as authors. Their use must comply with the journal's separate policy on the use of generative artificial intelligence.

4.5. Data Access and Retention

Authors must ensure that the data underlying their research are accurate and reliable. Editors may request supporting data, research materials, analytical procedures, or other relevant documentation to verify the validity of the findings.

Where practicable, authors should make research data available through an appropriate repository or upon reasonable request, subject to applicable legal requirements, confidentiality obligations, participant privacy, and restrictions on proprietary information.

Authors should retain supporting research data and documentation for an appropriate period consistent with institutional requirements, applicable regulations, and recognized research integrity standards.

4.6. Acknowledgement of Sources and Funding

Authors must cite all sources that materially informed their research and acknowledge contributions from individuals or organizations that do not qualify for authorship.

All sources of financial support must be disclosed, including relevant grant information where applicable. Authors must also declare any financial or non-financial interests that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, their research or its interpretation.

4.7. Research Ethics and Participant Protection

Research involving human participants, animals, sensitive personal information, or other ethically regulated activities must comply with applicable laws, institutional requirements, and recognized ethical standards.

Where required, authors must obtain approval from the relevant ethics committee or institutional review board before conducting the research. Manuscripts must include appropriate statements concerning ethical approval and informed consent, where applicable.

Authors must protect participant confidentiality, privacy, and other applicable rights. Research involving unusual hazards must clearly identify relevant risks and describe appropriate safeguards.

4.8. Participation in Peer Review

Authors are expected to cooperate with the editorial and peer-review processes. They must respond to editorial queries, provide requested clarifications or supporting documentation, and address reviewers' comments in a systematic and timely manner.

When revisions are requested, authors should submit a revised manuscript together with a clear response explaining how each comment has been addressed or why a particular recommendation has not been adopted.

4.9. Correction of Published Work

If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published article, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in issuing a correction or retracting the article, where necessary.

If the journal receives credible information from a third party concerning a significant error, authors are expected to cooperate with the editorial investigation and provide relevant evidence.

5. Duties and Responsibilities of the Publisher

5.1. Publication Ethics and Research Integrity

The publisher is responsible for supporting the journal's commitment to ethical publishing practices and research integrity. In collaboration with the Editor-in-Chief and editorial board, the publisher must take appropriate action when allegations of plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or other forms of research misconduct arise.

Where necessary, the journal may publish corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, or other appropriate notices to preserve the accuracy and reliability of the scholarly record.

The publisher must not encourage research misconduct or knowingly permit the publication of work that violates established ethical standards.

5.2. Editorial Independence

The publisher must respect the editorial independence of the journal and must not improperly influence decisions concerning manuscript acceptance, rejection, peer review, or publication.

Editorial decisions must be based on academic merit, the journal's scope, and applicable ethical and legal requirements.

5.3. Preservation and Access to Published Content

The publisher is responsible for supporting the long-term preservation and accessibility of the journal's published content through appropriate digital archiving arrangements.

The journal will take reasonable measures to protect the integrity of its digital archive and maintain access to published articles in accordance with its access, licensing, and archiving policies.

6. Peer-Review and Publication Principles

Jurnal Multidisipliner Kapalamada applies peer review to evaluate the academic quality and suitability of submitted manuscripts.

The journal's review process is intended to assess the relevance, originality, methodological soundness, significance, clarity, and overall quality of each submission. Reviewers provide recommendations, while the final publication decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief or an authorized editor.

The possible editorial decisions include acceptance, acceptance subject to revisions, or rejection. A revised manuscript is not guaranteed acceptance and may undergo further review.

Manuscripts must comply with applicable legal requirements and the journal's policies on plagiarism, copyright, conflicts of interest, research ethics, and responsible use of AI.

7. Handling Allegations of Publication Misconduct

Jurnal Multidisipliner Kapalamada takes allegations of publication misconduct seriously, whether they concern submitted manuscripts or previously published articles.

When an allegation is received, the editorial team will assess the available information, seek clarification from the relevant parties where appropriate, and conduct further investigation when warranted. All parties must be treated fairly, and confidentiality will be maintained to the extent possible.

If an investigation establishes that a correction or other editorial action is necessary, the journal will take appropriate measures in accordance with its publication ethics policies and relevant COPE guidance.

Possible actions include requesting corrections, rejecting a manuscript, publishing an expression of concern, retracting an article, or notifying the authors' affiliated institutions or relevant authorities when appropriate.
