Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism Screening and Originality Policy

1. Plagiarism Screening

Jurnal Multidisipliner Kapalamada is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all manuscripts submitted for publication. To support this commitment, the editorial team screens submitted manuscripts using plagiarism detection software, including Turnitin and other appropriate similarity-checking tools.

The screening process helps editors identify textual similarities, improper citations, potential plagiarism, and redundant publication. Similarity reports are assessed carefully by the editorial team, as a similarity score alone does not necessarily indicate plagiarism. Each case is evaluated in context, taking into account the originality of the content, the use of quotations, citations, references, and the nature of the identified similarities.

2. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism occurs when authors present another person's ideas, words, data, findings, or other intellectual contributions as their own without appropriate acknowledgement or citation. It includes direct copying, improper paraphrasing, and the use of others' work without proper attribution.

The journal also considers duplicate and redundant publication to be forms of publication misconduct. These practices include republishing substantially similar work in multiple journals without appropriate disclosure and reusing significant portions of one's previously published work without proper citation.

A related practice is salami slicing, in which a single research project is divided into multiple publications with insufficiently distinct contributions. Such practices may compromise the originality and integrity of the scholarly record.

3. Timing of Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Multidisipliner Kapalamada are subject to an initial originality screening after submission and before the peer-review process begins.

Additional screening may be conducted during peer review, before acceptance, or after publication if concerns regarding originality or publication ethics arise.

4. Handling of Similarity and Plagiarism

The editorial team evaluates similarity reports according to the extent, nature, and context of the identified overlap. Editorial decisions are not based solely on a numerical similarity score.

The following procedures serve as general guidance:

  • Similarity below 5%: The manuscript may proceed to editorial assessment if the identified similarities are properly cited and do not indicate plagiarism or other ethical concerns.

  • Similarity of 5% to 25%: The manuscript may be returned to the authors for clarification, proper citation, paraphrasing, or other necessary revisions. The revised manuscript may be screened again before proceeding to peer review.

  • Similarity above 25%: The manuscript may be rejected without peer review if the similarity report reveals substantial unattributed overlap, extensive copying, or other serious concerns regarding originality.

These thresholds are indicative guidelines rather than automatic decisions. The editorial team retains the authority to assess each manuscript individually. A low similarity score does not guarantee originality, while a high score may result from properly cited references, standard terminology, or other legitimate material.

If plagiarism or another form of publication misconduct is suspected, the journal may request an explanation from the authors and conduct further assessment in accordance with its publication ethics policy.

5. Revision, Rejection, and Resubmission

When identified similarities can be addressed through legitimate revision, the editorial team may invite the authors to revise the manuscript by improving paraphrasing, adding appropriate citations, or correcting references.

Manuscripts containing extensive plagiarism, fabricated attribution, or serious violations of publication ethics may be rejected. Authors may submit a substantially revised manuscript as a new submission only when permitted by the journal and after the underlying ethical concerns have been appropriately addressed.

Resubmission does not guarantee acceptance or exemption from further originality screening.

6. Originality and Exclusive Submission

By submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Multidisipliner Kapalamada, authors confirm that the work is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Authors must acknowledge all sources that have influenced the research and ensure that any reused material is appropriately cited and complies with applicable copyright and licensing requirements.

The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, duplicate publication, or the unauthorized reuse of published work. Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality, accuracy, and ethical integrity of their submissions.

7. Commitment to Publication Ethics

Jurnal Multidisipliner Kapalamada is committed to protecting the integrity of scholarly communication and maintaining public trust in academic publishing. All suspected cases of plagiarism and redundant publication will be assessed fairly and consistently in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and applicable guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Appropriate editorial action may include requesting revisions, rejecting a manuscript, issuing a correction, or retracting a published article when warranted by the evidence.
