Poverty alleviation remains a priority agenda in development due to the substantial impacts caused by being trapped in the cycle of poverty. Efforts to address poverty can be undertaken through the tourism sector, particularly in regions that possess the potential to grow and develop through tourism activities. This study aims to examine the effect of the tourism sector, represented by the number of tourist arrivals, on poverty levels in the short term in Wakatobi Regency by employing the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model approach. The findings of this study indicate that the number of tourist arrivals does not have a significant effect on reducing poverty levels in Wakatobi Regency. Furthermore, the poverty level in the previous period significantly influences the poverty level in the current period in Wakatobi Regency.
